A natural food supplement combining Lactoferrin (from cow milk) and L-Glutamine designed to support the natural immune system, gut microbiome, oral and skin health.

Key benefits

Supports the gut microbiome, healthy gut flora and healing of the gut lining to benefit gut conditions and additionally support the immune system and skin health.

Supports and regulates normal immune function with proven anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant and immunomodulatory efficacy.

Regulates and transports normal iron absorption, reduces oxidative stress by reducing excess iron build-up as well as acting as an anti-bacterial by preventing iron use by bacteria.

Regulates and reduces inflammation (ideal support for skin conditions such as acne).

Supports tissue and skin repair (by boosting cell regeneration).

KEY BENEFITS

GUT MICROBIOME (healthy gut = healthy skin)

Lactoferrin could be described as the ‘ideal probiotic’ and is considered the fire-starter of our gut microbiome when it is first introduced to infants in milk colostrum soon after birth. It supports a healthy gut microbiome, a vital part of our natural immune system, and will therefore support immunity and health (including skin health and condition) and has been clinically shown to reduce Leaky Gut Syndrome and benefit other gut related issues. Studies have shown that lactoferrin increased the growth rate (40-200%) of beneficial bacteria (such as Bifidobacterium bifidum, B. longum, B. lactis, B. infantis, Lactobacillus reuteri, L. rhamnosus and L. coryniformis).

SKIN HEALTH

Due to its anti-inflammatory, gut microbiome supporting and skin regenerating properties, lactoferrin can help support skin health and condition in a number of ways:

CLEARER COMPLEXIONStudies have shown that Lactoferrin can help reduce both acne lesion severity and count as well as associated inflammation, in addition to supporting the gut microbiome which additionally positively supports skin health and condition. It is shown to significantly reduce acne lesion count (by 38%) and decrease triacylglycerols in skin surface lipids (found in sebum) by 31.1%

CELL REGENERATION. Lactoferrin has been shown to support healing processes. One of the most outstanding abilities is its cell proliferation and the ability to stimulate cell regeneration by the release of specific cytokines, fibroblasts and keratinocytes. Studies show that wound healing in mucosal tissues, such as the oral mucosa, is boosted by treatment with lactoferrin.

INFLAMMATION (keeping immune response in check and skin calm). Helps reduce redness and inflammation associated with skin conditions such as acne and eczema as it helps turn on and off the inflammation processes, ensuring the immune system stays in check.

IRON REGULATION

(Iron regulation causing anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant activity) Lactoferrin binds, releases, transports and regulates the absorption of iron, taking it to where it’s required within the body and helping prevent excess build up and successfully treats iron-deficiency in pregnancy. This activity also prevents the formation of potentially toxic hydroxyl radicals (free radicals) and the use of iron by pathogenic bacteria, making it also an anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant agent.

IMMUNE SUPPORT

Lactoferrin plays a vital role within our natural immune system. It supports the immune system as an anti-bacterial (removing iron for pathogen & bacterial use) and anti-viral (binding with both virus spikes and human receptor cells), as well as supporting the gut microbiome and regulating the body's own immune cells (T-helper cells - balances Th1/Th2 cell activity), which is vital for an effective natural immune system and keeping our immune response balanced and in check.

ANTI-BACTERIAL – binds iron making it unavailable to pathogens and bacteria that need it for replication and catalysis.

ANTI-VIRAL – Lactoferrin works both in the first phase of infection by helping inhibit the entry of the virus into the cell through the nose and mouth (as it is present in nasel and throat liquids), and when the virus has already penetrated the cell. It acts as a first line of defence in the airways, eyes and nasal passages and on a cellular level within the body. It is digested and broken down by the enzyme pepsin in the stomach to lactoferricin, which is the key binding-molecule. Here it supports the immune system by binding directly with the ‘spikes’ of virus cells preventing them invading host cells, as well as binding directly onto the human cell receptors, preventing virus spread.

ANTI-OXIDANT - Excess iron can cause oxidative stress. Lactoferrin can help reduce oxidative stress by binding and removing iron, which prevents cell damage or cell death

GUT-MICROBIOME - The gut microbiome plays an important role within the natural immune system. Lactoferrin supports healthy gut bacteria.

Key actives

WHAT IS LACTOFERRIN?

Lactoferrin is a natural, biologically active, iron-binding glycoprotein made of a single polypeptide chain of 691 amino acids. It is a key biological protein within the body and found in saliva, our tears, synovial fluid, white blood cells, our sweat and mother’s milk and has proven antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory, iron regulating, skin healing and immunomodulatory activities. With over 8,800 clinical trials and papers written on its benefits, Lactoferrin not only plays a vital role within our natural immune system but also helps support skin and gut microbiome health.

WHAT IS L-GLUTAMINE?

L-Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body and involved in a vast amount of metabolic processes, including the synthesis and protection of glycogen, muscle tissue and immune support during periods of immune and muscular stress when the body’s natural L-Glutamine levels become depleted. It is also a major source of fuel for enterocytes (intestinal cells) and therefore supports the digestive system. L-Glutamine is manufactured by microbiological fermentation.

How to use

Adults: For skin, oral & gut health: 1 capsule a day. For oral health, open capsule, mix with water and gargle before swallowing. For immunity support: Preventative dose – 1 capsule, once a day, ideally during the winter months. Loading Dose (from the first inkling you’re feeling run down) – 1 capsule, 3 times a day, until feeling yourself. Suitable for children. Recommended dose 1 capsule opened and sprinkled onto food.

CAUTIONS Food Supplements should not be used to substitute a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. Lactoferrin is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure but designed only to support the natural immune system, gut and skin health. Intentional Nutrients

  • Glutathione

    Glutathione

A tripeptide (derived from glutamic acid, cysteine and glycine) and the body's key and most powerful anti-oxidant, the production of which slows down as we age. Fiercely protects against cellular degradation and hyper-pigmentation and fights off free-radical attack. In our view one of the greatest anti-oxidants.

  • Lactoferrin

    Lactoferrin

A key biological protein within the body found in saliva, tears, synovial fluid, white blood cells, sweat and a mother’s milk. Has proven antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory, iron regulating, skin healing and immunomodulatory activities. Also helps support gut microbiome health.

“Lactoferrin has been a part in my life right from birth, as a breast fed newborn, all the way until now as a 44 year old mother of three. Our family’s nutritional supplement business, under the expertise of my father and his business partner Dr Nick Larkin, started pioneering Lactoferrin for equine health over 30 years ago including Lactoferrin's first patent application. I have been taking Lactoferrin on and off for decades as a supplement for not only skin and gut health, but also to support my immune system during winter months when colds and flu are prevalent, as have my children, unknown to them, sprinkled on their toast. I have always been secretly proud of being part of a family with a ‘strong constitution’. Like OSKIA’s founding ingredient, MSM, we only work with supplement ingredients that already play a vital molecular role within our bodies. Lactoferrin is part of the normal immune system of mammals, including humans. We have evolved with it and it is a part of us - in our throat, our tears, our gut and in our white blood cells. It is one of the most vital components of our immune system - our first line of defence. In addition to supporting the immune system and its normal function, its benefits on skin and gut health are undeniable. To quote Dr Nick Larkin ‘Lactoferrin is vital to life.”

FAQs

Who is this product recommended for?

Anyone looking to support their immune system, skin and gut health

L Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body and involved in a vast amount of metabolic processes, including the synthesis and protection of glycogen, muscle tissue and immune support during periods of immune and muscular stress when the body’s natural L-Glutamine levels become depleted. It is also a major source of fuel for enterocytes (intestinal cells) and therefore supports the digestive system. L-Glutamine is manufactured by microbiological fermentation.

Where is our Lactoferrin from?

We use Proferrin, a pure native lactoferrin purified from premium fresh cow milk farmed in Northern France. It is a spray-dried powder that contains more than 95% pure lactoferrin vs. protein. It is not denaturation, meaning it retains all of its natural potency and molecular properties.

Why use Cow Lactoferrin?

Human and cow lactoferrin are very similar. Human lactoferrin is a single polypeptide chain consisting of 691 amino acids, while cow lactoferrin is composed of 689 amino acids. However, the key role of binding lactoferrin to cells is due to a molecule called lactoferricin (which is formed when lactoferrin is broken down in the digestive system by the gut enzyme pepsin) which is almost identical in cow and human, meaning that cow lactoferrin is able to bind to the same receptors and cells as human lactoferrin.

Why is Lactoferrin so important?

Colostrum, the first milk produced after a baby is born, contains very high levels of lactoferrin, about seven times the amount found in milk produced later on and it is this that gives babies their first dose of immunity against immediate and latent pathogens, as well as kick-starting the gut microbiome, a vital part of the immune system. Of particular importance is its presence in nasal and throat fluids providing a first line of defence.

Why so simple?

Simply put, we want you to be able to add Lactoferrin to your diet regardless of what other vitamin supplements you’re taking. You can take it on top of your normal daily multi-vitamin supplement without the worry of exceeding your daily limit of vitamins and minerals. So sprinkle it, scoop it, dab it as you wish, for all the family.

Why have we added L-Glutamine?

L-Glutamine is your cell’s energy powerhouse. When you are run down, stressed or ill, L-Glutamine levels are exhausted quickly.

Are there any contra-indications?

Because Lactoferrin is already part of our body, it is suitable for everyone of all ages. Due to its ability to increase gut microbiome bacteria, some changes in gut activity might occur. However, for all immune or iron related issues, we always advice you speak to your doctor.
