Post-Summer Skin Rehab: 4 Steps Back to Healthy Skin

As the weather starts to change from sultry summer to the crisp days of autumn, it’s time to treat your post-holiday, sun-stressed skin with a little TLC.

The sun can be detrimental to skin health in a variety of ways. Excess sun exposure causes a number of conditions ranging from sunburn, unwanted pigmentation or unpleasant breakouts thanks to hotter, more humid weather combined with layers of sun cream that can result in blocked pores, not to mention far more serious long term risks.

Read on to find out how we recommend treating post-summer skin for a healthy, stronger, more balanced complexion ready to face the winter months.

DIET. Along with the rest of our body, our skin obtains vital nutritional elements from what we eat, so a good diet is key. Skin nutrition works best when applied from the inside and out, and whilst we give skin a helping hand with the topical products we apply, it is equally important to feed the skin with a nutrient-rich diet. At this time of year, we recommend upping your intake of antioxidants which are great for helping the skin to repair itself from the inside. Try introducing deliciously nutritious antioxidant-rich foods such as blueberries, nuts, spinach, tomatoes, kale and sweet potatoes into your daily meals.

SKINCARE ROUTINE. Keep an eye out for pigmentation-busting ingredients such as Vitamin C, Arbutin and Swiss Garden Cress Liposomes, which work to brighten and even the complexion whilst slowing down the process of melanin production. Try our Renaissance BrightLight, packed full of 13 brightening actives to visibly tackle pigmentation and sun spots, brighten and soothe.

SPF. Even though the sun isn’t shining as bright, we still need to protect our skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays which still penetrate even on the cloudiest days. Sun damage is one of the main triggers of premature ageing, leaving skin lacklustre, dry, prone to wrinkles, and pigmented. And it’s vital to remember that sun-damage can take many years to manifest itself, so the best advice is to take a really cautious approach. As winter approaches our skin becomes naturally paler, meaning it is more susceptible to sun burn and sun damage. SPF should be an essential in your beauty bag all year long and a low level SPF 8 found in day creams such as our Renaissance 360 is a perfect option. Make sure to reapply every 2 hours to stay protected.

REHYDRATE. Sun-parched skin often feels dry, tight and sensitive so it is an absolute must to keep hydration levels topped up. Our Renaissance 360 is a multi-tasking day cream which not only protects but deeply nourishes the skin whilst also tackling pigmentation and sun spots, and fighting the signs of ageing.
