As we age our pores produce less sebum which results in dry, flaky skin that lacks vitality and lustre, and also leaves the skin open to infection and damage as sebum forms the lipid barrier and acid mantel, two forms of wonderful defence for our skin.

But, dry skin is not just an ageing concern, but also a skin type - skin with small pores. People with small pores and dry skin, are exceptionally lucky in that they rarely suffer from spots or acne, but unfortunately do age a little faster than those with oily skin and can be prone to conditions such as eczema, psoriasis due to their compromised lipid barrier and acid mantel.
