This recipe by Thomasina Miers puts together some of the best known anti-inflammatory ingredients – mackerel and avocados for their high Omega 3 content, ginger for its gingerols content (more specifically 6-gingerol), chilli (also high in vitamin A and C), olive oil, pumpkin and sesame seeds and oil.

NUTRIENT OF THE MONTH

Omegas 3 & 6 are vital for health and beauty, and will keep your skin hydrated throughout this cold spell. Even the US army wants its soldiers to take more essential fatty acids...but they’re not letting on whether that’s just for the general health benefits or for a winter beauty boost!

ESSENTIAL FACTS ABOUT ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS

We may not want to eat GM foods, but the EU might have found a way to reduce tree felling for the paper industry in the form of GM potatoes. It looks like European Union could approve the cultivation of GM potatoes destined to paper production as the green light to the genetically modified product has been under review by the European Commission in recent days. The announcement came from Director General for Health at the European Commission, Paola Testori Coggi, during a meeting organized by the University of Milan as part of the EC initiative "Lessons for Europe", in collaboration with the Italian Parliament and Government. The issue of authorization to the cultivation of GM crops within the EU is still open, says Testori Coggi in a statement: "The procedure for evaluating the green light to the cultivation of this GM potato is 'in progress'". This GMO "could result very important for the production of paper."
